Prem clubs wrangle over transfer rule change
Prem chiefs are gearing up for a spiky meeting of club bosses next week.
Clubs will be asked to vote through new rules banning loans from “related parties”.
That would outlaw Newcastle taking stars such as Ruben Neves from the four Saudi Pro League clubs owned by the Gulf state’s Public Investment Fund.
That is likely to bring a strong debate, with the Toon hoping to get Sheffield United, Manchester City, Chelsea and Brighton on their side.
Clubs will also be asked to confirm the new deal which will see up to a further £500million per year of broadcast income going to the EFL.
Many lower top-flight outfits believe that the offer is too generous.
They want strict conditions to prevent the extra cash being splashed on transfers and wages.
Jad it’s all over?
Saudi clubs are ready to target Jadon Sancho in January.
United’s outcast attacker has also been linked with major European clubs such as Juventus and old teem Borussia Dortmund.
And it’s believed an exit – on loan or permanent – is more likely in the next transfer window than the England winger staying following his fall-out with boss Erik ten Hag.
Saudi Pro League clubs sniffed around for Sancho in the summer to no avail.
And it’s thought they will try to persuade the 23-year-old such a transfer could benefit his career, even though most leading players to move to the middle east do so in their 30s.
Red Devils tired of Nev sermons
Richard Arnold is gone and Sir Jim Ratcliffe is about to take control of 25 per cent of the club. All will be well again, it seems, writes NEIL CUSTIS.
Two Manchester United fans I saw after the news broke claimed this would get the soul of the club back and rediscover the DNA. Why? How? And what is it?
There was an Ole Gunnar Solskjaer press conference once where the former manager said the DNA was in the brickwork and pointed to a wall in the room. The DNA?
Yes, it is about bringing youth players through, which the Old Trafford club continue to try to do. Yes, it is about playing entertaining football — the problem being that the opposition has become better and wants to stop you doing that.
And then there is . . .?
United legend Gary Neville cannot go a day without telling us the club is rotten from top to bottom. Not once has he said what he would do if he was in charge tomorrow. It is just a constant boring rant from someone who cannot stand being challenged.
Maybe Neville does not like the fact he has not been invited to be involved. The club has long since grown tired of his sermons.
To suggest that outgoing chief executive Arnold — as well as his predecessor Ed Woodward — did not have the club at heart is wrong.
