Man shot on Mandeville’s Mardi Gras parade route, police say

A man was wounded in a shooting Friday night near the Krewe of Eve parade route in Mandeville.

The violence erupted at about 9:30 p.m. in the parking lot of the McDonald’s restaurant along Louisiana 22, just off the route, said officer Eddie Vanison, a police spokesperson. 

It wasn’t immediately clear whether the parade was rolling there at the time or had passed. The victim’s condition wasn’t immediately available. 

“This is certainly not the way we expected to start Mardi Gras,” Police Chief Todd Schliem said. 

Schliem doubted the wound was life-threatening but said the scene was chaotic after shots were fired.
