Man injured in Denver police-involved shooting Sunday
Denver #Denver
Denver police said a man was injured during a police-involved shooting at East Colfax Avenue and Yosemite Street on Sunday afternoon.
According to police Division Chief Ron Thomas, there was a call at 5:30 p.m. to police about a person shooting rounds at a vehicle in the 200 block of East Colfax Avenue. When police arrived, they found an unoccupied vehicle with bullet holes, Thomas said in a news conference Sunday, and witnesses told police that they saw a male suspect run away on foot from the scene traveling east.
Officers found the suspect a short time later at East Colfax Avenue and Yosemite Street, Thomas said. As they approached the suspect from behind, they found that the man was armed with a gun in his waistband.
“The officers approached, began issuing him commands,” Thomas said. “He refused those commands, and he ultimately threatened the officers with the weapon.”
Multiple officers began firing at the suspect, Thomas said, injuring him. The man was transported to a local hospital where he was in critical condition.
Thomas said the department will review video taken in the area as part of the investigation. No police officers were injured in the incident.
