Over the next few days, people across the world will be tucking into their favorite food for Christmas – and why should our furry friends miss out on the fun?

A man in Thailand has gone viral online for celebrating Christmas with street dogs. Niall Harbison works to help stray dogs in the country, and posted videos online of him treating 100 to a real festive feast.

Treating Street Dogs

“Street dogs around the world have a hard life.,” he began in the caption. “But this group of 100 here in Thailand today were made feel [sic] very special. I was up at 4.30am to cook them the finest meal of their lives and people have been sending me toys from all over the world so I saved them up for today. Most of these dogs have never seen a toy in their lives.

“Medicines, vet trips and daily nutritious food are much more important but just like humans I think sometimes dogs just need to have a special treat and enjoy themselves. I think it’s a day they’ll never forget.

“The video was made in memory of two wonderful dogs called Kira and Valko who passed recently in Ireland. Their owner wanted to do something special for them and I think they’ll be looking down very proud today.

“Big love to all people and dogs around the world.”

Every Cent Helps

On his DonorBox page, he explains that he looks after 80 street dogs. This involves feeding them, providing medicine and veterinary care, and sterilizing them too. His work costs between $2000 and $3000 each month, and he funds it himself while also raising money through donations.

“Feeding them is a small part that only costs about $30 per day,” he says, “But it is the vet, medicine and sterilizing bills that quickly add up.”

He also details his experiences on Substack, while you can donate and help him continue his work here.
