Man City vs Sevilla
Manchester City marked its first appearance in the UEFA Super Cup by beating Sevilla 5-4 in a penalty shootout on Wednesday to add another piece of silverware to its vast haul under manager Pep Guardiola.
After a 1-1 draw in regulation time and then nine successful spot kicks in the shootout, Nemanja Gudelj struck his attempt against the crossbar to hand City victory inside Stadio Georgios Karaiskakis.
It was a 15th trophy won by City in Guardiola’s reign that started in 2016 and made up for the loss to Arsenal in a penalty shootout in the Community Shield 10 days ago.
“The manager made it so clear to us before the game how much he wants to win this trophy,” City midfielder Jack Grealish said about the annual match between last season’s winners of the Champions League (City) and Europa League (Sevilla). “You want to win everything anyway but that gave us more of an urge. This club has never won it.”

Rome Trevi Fountain
A video of a tourist climbing into Rome’s iconic Trevi Fountain to fill her water bottle has circulated online.
The footage, filmed last month, shows the woman walking over a row of rocks to reach the center of the 18th-century landmark as onlookers watch in horror.
After filling her bottle from a spout of the fountain, she attempts to walk away, before a guard blows a whistle and paces towards her.
The two engage in a brief discussion before the guard takes the tourist away. It remains unclear what happened to the tourist after the incident, and whether she was arrested or fined.
Tourists can be fined up to 500 euros for entering the fountain, which is widely considered one of the city’s best known landmarks.

A source with “direct knowledge” of the couple’s alleged break-up told the outlet Sam has moved out of their mansion, and added: “It’s only a matter of time before Sam files for divorce.”
It added the pair separated “after a nuclear argument that involves allegations of cheating”.

Congressional leaders are pitching a stopgap government funding package to avoid a federal shutdown after next month. House Speaker Kevin McCarthy raised the idea to House Republicans on a members-only call. On Tuesday, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer said the two leaders had spoken about such a temporary measure. It’s an acknowledgement the Republican-led House and Democratic Senate are nowhere near agreement on spending levels. The fiscal year starts Oct. 1, when funding will be needed. The stopgap measure would fund operations into December but McCarthy needs support from Republicans who are loathe to agree as they push for steeper cuts.
Officials say Russia has resumed its targeting of grain infrastructure in Ukraine’s southern Odesa region, using drones in overnight strikes on storage facilities and ports along the Danube River. Kyiv has increasingly used those terminals for grain transport to Europe after Moscow broke off a key wartime export deal through the Black Sea. Also Wednesday, a loaded container ship stuck at the port of Odesa since Russia’s full-scale invasion more than 17 months ago set sail and is heading through the Black Sea. It is using a temporary corridor established by Ukraine for merchant shipping. Ukraine’s economy is heavily dependent on farming. Its agricultural exports, like those of Russia, are also crucial for world food supplies.
North Korea has offered its first official confirmation that it detained a U.S. soldier who bolted into its country last month. It released a statement through its state media attributing statements to the Army private that criticized the United States. There was no immediate verification that Pvt. Travis King actually made any of the comments. King had served in South Korea and sprinted into the North while on a civilian tour of a border village on July 18. The official Korean Central News Agency said King told them he decided to enter North Korea because he was disillusioned with American society. KCNA is the voice of North Korea’s government.
Public schools on Maui are starting the process of reopening and vehicle traffic is moving again in signs of recovery a week after wildfires demolished a historic town and killed at least 110 people. Meanwhile, additional cadaver dogs arrived Wednesday to help teams searching for remains of the dead on Hawaii’s second-largest island. Survivors have been contending with intermittent power and unreliable cell service as they seek help rebuilding their lives. With the death toll already at 106, a mobile morgue with coroners, pathologists and technicians has arrived to help with the grim task of sorting through remains. The governor has warned that a new storm could complicate the search and recovery.
