Man City position on Bukayo Saka transfer as Jack Grealish sets aims for next season

Here are your Manchester City headlines for Tuesday, June 7.

Man City stance on transfer pursuit of Bukayo Saka amid uncertain Arsenal future

Manchester City have distanced themselves from reports that they are considering a move for Arsenal star Bukayo Saka.

Saka, 20, has emerged as one of the most exciting young talents in the Premier League at the Emirates after another productive season. He is also already a fixture in the England squad under Gareth Southgate and can expect to go to the World Cup at the end of the year.

Arsenal are in the process of trying to secure Saka’s club future. The rising star is entering the final two years of his contract in north London, and a failure to agree terms this summer would leave the Gunners vulnerable to having to accept a knock-down price next summer rather than risk losing the player on a free in 2024.

Man City star Jack Grealish sets out four personal targets for next season

Jack Grealish has already set his sights on significant improvement next season as he looks to kick on in his City career.

Grealish became the most expensive British player in history when the Blues paid £100m to sign him from Aston Villa last summer. The 26-year-old ended his first campaign by lifting the Premier League title at the Etihad after beating his former club, although he had been an unused substitute during the game.

Pep Guardiola and City bosses have full confidence in Grealish’s ability but the player himself has admitted it has been a challenge to adapt to the demands in Manchester, and his transfer fee has placed extra levels of scrutiny on his game at a time when his role has changed from what it was at his former club.

Nathan Ake declares stance on Man City exit amid Newcastle transfer reports

Nathan Ake has no intention of leaving City and has declared his ambitions to play a bigger role for the club next season.

Ake, 27, joined City in 2020 from relegated Bournemouth for £40m, but struggled with injuries in his first season and played just 13 times. In the campaign just gone, Ake enjoyed more outings for City as centre-back and left-back cover, making 27 appearances — although he is still firmly behind Ruben Dias, John Stones and Aymeric Laporte in the central defensive pecking order.

Towards the end of the season, Ake played an important role in stepping up as Dias was injured and Joao Cancelo was needed at right-back, prompting talk that he could leave the Etihad in the summer in search of more regular game time.

Here’s what he said.
