Manchester City fans certainly didn’t forget Facundo Pellistri’s fighting talk before they dominated Manchester United at Old Trafford.

In the lead-up to their 3-0 win in the Manchester derby, the United youngster claimed that ‘you don’t see City shirts or flags’ in the city.

Pep Guardiola offered a sarcastic response to Pellistri during his pre-match press conference as he prepared his side for the clash.

And it was indeed City who came out on top as two goals from Erling Haaland and a late third from Phil Foden capped off a fine display for the champions.

City have now won five of the last six derbies in all competitions and their fans were quick to joke about Pellistri’s claim at full-time.

Taking to X, one said: “Man City celebrating a win whilst Pellistri is out counting City shirts in the city centre.”

“I was soo happy about this result but then I remembered Facundo Pellistri walked round Manchester with his girlfriend & he couldn’t find any City shirts or flags,” added a second.

With laughing emojis, a third said: “Pellistri should have kept his darn mouth shut. This is Manchester and Man City owns it.”

“Heard Pellistri is out in Manchester again looking for City shirts,” said a fourth.

Pellistri did not feature in United’s matchday squad as City avenged their 2-1 defeat at Old Trafford last season.

Haaland opened the scoring from the penalty spot after Rasmus Hojlund was adjudged to have held Rodri inside the area.

The Norwegian then doubled their lead early in the second half as he headed in towards the back post, with no United player marking him.

He could well have completed his hat-trick in the final ten minutes but instead he passed to Phil Foden who scored their third goal.

United barely had a sniff on goal apart from Scott McTominay and Marcus Rashford efforts, with the result their fifth loss in the league.
