Man City and Jack Grealish urged to find balance as Danny Mills raises questions over England star despite two assists against Leeds

Jack Grealish had a mixed evening against Leeds and ex-Manchester City defender Danny Mills believes the winger must adapt.

Despite providing two assists in the second half in his side’s 3-1 win at Elland Road, Grealish endured a difficult first-half and missed numerous clear-cut chances.

With four Premier League goals in 34 appearances, finding the back of the net has been the biggest problem for Grealish since his record-breaking move from Aston Villa in 2021.

Mills believes the move continues to prove difficult for the England winger and that he is yet to adapt in Pep Guardiola’s team.

Speaking on talkSPORT, he said: “It has been a little bit difficult for him. It was a huge move. I’m not interested in the transfer fee – that’s irrelevant. It has nothing to do with Jack.

“He’s obviously a very good player, but going to Manchester City, having to learn to play a different way, it’s been a little bit difficult for him. He’s found that tough at times.

“City are about pass and move. Jack’s game is more about picking the ball up, running at people, drawing people in or drawing the foul.

“Sometimes that slows the game down a bit, and you can see Pep gets a little bit frustrated at that.”

But Mills insists City must also adapt to Grealish and realise he is an individualist, rather than one to fall directly within their system.

“Between them, they’ve got to find the balance,” Mills added.

“Manchester City have to realise that’s the player they bought. They didn’t buy a player that plays one or two touch all the time. They bought a ball carrier, a dribbler.

“They have to understand what Jack is. Jack, of course, has to adapt a little bit. Maybe he suffered a dip in confidence.”
