Liverpool were knocked out of the Carabao Cup on Thursday evening after being beaten by Manchester City in a five-goal thriller.
The Reds travelled to the Etihad Stadium with a place in the quarter-finals on the line.
It was City who emerged victorious as they won 3-2.
The game went into the half-time break level with Fabio Carvalho cancelling out Erling Haaland’s ninth minute opener.
City took the lead once more just after the restart through Riyad Mahrez, only for Mohamed Salah to level the scores again moments later.
But it was the home side who won it with Nathan Ake notching what proved to be the winner in the 58th minute.

Liverpool had multiple chances to restore parity and make it 3-3.
The best chance of the lot fell to Liverpool’s mega -money summer signing, Darwin Nunez.
The Uruguayan forward beat the offside trap and went one vs one with Stefan Ortega in the 72nd minute.
Nunez had all the time in the world to pick his spot but inexplicably dragged his shot wide from close range.

Jurgen Klopp’s reaction to the miss was shown and it was gold.
The German manager had a beaming smile on his face as Nunez ran through on goal.
Klopp was expecting to see the net bulge and could not contain his emotions after seeing Nunez miss the target.

Fan reaction What next for Manchester City and Liverpool?
Man City have progressed to the last eight of the Carabao Cup and will now play Southampton at St Mary’s for a spot in the semi-final.
They are next in action when they take on Leeds United at Elland Road in Wednesday December 28.
Liverpool will play their first Premier League match after the World Cup break when they travel to Aston Villa on Boxing Day.
