A man has been arrested in connection with multiple shootings in Texas that left six dead and three injured, according to authorities.
ABC News stated that the man, reportedly in his 30s per the Austin Police Department, was booked into the Travis County Jail on Tuesday night.
CNN reported that the male suspect has been charged with capital murder, following two briefings given by authorities on Tuesday night in Austin and Bexar Counties. Further charges are pending, they noted.
The suspect, whose name has not yet been released, was reportedly arrested while trying to speed away from officers mid-shootout, resulting in crashing his car. NBC reported that both officers suffered gunshot wounds.
PEOPLE reached out to the Austin Police Department and Bexar County Sheriff’s Office for comment.
Officials said that the suspect allegedly killed two people in a San Antonio home on Tuesday morning, then allegedly shot and injured an officer before killing another man and woman. A male cyclist was also allegedly shot and injured by the same suspect.
Then when an officer responded to a burglary call just before 7:00 p.m. local time that night, the “male suspect immediately opened fire” when found in the backyard of the residence, before fleeing, Interim Austin Police Chief Robin Henderson stated. Two more victims were found dead after “officers went inside the residence to check the welfare of those inside.”
“I want to emphasize that APD and other law enforcement did not determine that these incidents were connected until the last incident occurred tonight after the male suspect was taken into custody.”
“I do want to express my deepest condolences to the victims and their families,” Chief Henderson began the briefing, which was posted to the APD’s Facebook page.

At a separate news conference in Bexar, Bexar County Sherrif Javier Salazar confirmed, per NBC, that the murders in their county were being investigated as a connection to the Austin shootings after authorities found a link between the suspect and the San Antonio residence.
The “two apparent victims” were “both believed to be in their 50s,” he stated.
“Right now our CSI unit is inside documenting the crime scene and then we will do a more thorough search,” he said during the briefing.
The story is developing.
