Magpies dig deep to strike hammer blow to Geelong’s premiership defence

Geelong #Geelong

Collingwood has withstood the loss of skipper Darcy Moore to a hamstring injury to take down Geelong on Friday night.

The Magpies kicked seven in a row almost immediately upon Moore’s substitution to take full control of the game, with the Cats unable to wrestle back control.

The win, particularly through adversity, will give Collingwood an enormous boost heading into the final fortnight of the season. It also essentially secures them the minor premiership.

For Geelong however, they will now almost certainly have to beat both St Kilda and the Western Bulldogs to play finals and attempt to defend their premiership.

Moore injury the huge talking point

Darcy Moore’s hamstring injury will be the big story out of tonight, even if the Pies have deemed it only ‘hamstring tightness’. Though the incident looked far worse.

The Magpies skipper pulled up hobbling in the first quarter and was quickly subbed out of the game.

Collingwood Head of Football Graham Wright provided an update at half time.

“It was hamstring tightness. They went down to try and loosen him up through the back but couldn’t get him going,” he said.

Moore added post-game: “Nothing too serious. Didn’t feel anything super strong. Made a pretty conservative call.”

Josh Daicos stars without his brother

Josh Daicos reminded the world, and the All-Australian selectors, that he should not be overlooked.

With Nick Daicos sidelined, Josh stood tall finishing as Collingwood’s best player on Friday night.

He finished with 37 disposals, eight score involvements, seven marks and 568 metres gained.

Jeremy Cameron doesn’t care for your boundaries

Jeremy Cameron found form on Friday night, kicking a bag of 7.4.

Two however were very clearly out of bounds.

The first was a mark taken out of bounds. The second a handball received out of play. Both finishes were incredible snaps, highlighting his expertise.
