Saturday: Hardwicke Stakes, Royal Ascot
Aidan O’Brien’s fine Royal Ascot continued as Broome powered to victory in the Group 2 Hardwicke Stakes under an excellent ride from Ryan Moore, with favourite Hurricane Lane trailing in third.
The Ballydoyle master landed his fifth success of the week, Moore his sixth, as the pair look set to be crowned top trainer and jockey at this year’s royal meeting.
Broome made the early running and controlled the 1m4f contest throughout, finishing three-and-a-quarter lengths clear of Mostahdaf in second and Hurricane Lane, who was making his first racecourse appearance since October, in third.
After the race, O’Brien was quick to praise winning jockey Moore. He said: “It was a brilliant ride and he has done an incredible job with this horse.
“One thing strange about the horse is that he seems to be coming to his peak after all these years, so I think we will see the best of him this year.”

Broome, who was runner-up to Wonderful Tonight in last year’s race, was expertly ridden by Moore who continues to thrive in the saddle.
The leading jockey was delighted to see Broome rewarded with the win having hit the crossbar a few times in recent appearances.
“I think the horse has been brilliantly prepared,” said Moore. “He was really good today and the rhythm was beautiful, he just flowed.
“We have always thought a lot of him. He was close to winning the Derby in 2019 and he has had a few different things that have not gone his way.
“The horse brought me a lot of pleasure today because he galloped and Aidan had him in a place to make him do that. His rhythm and his attitude was brilliant and sometimes you can get on them and know if a horse is in the right place and he was.”
As a result of his impressive victory, Broome has been priced at a general 12-1 shot (from 33) for the King George VI And Queen Elizabeth Qipco Stakes at Newmarket next month.
