Shaw #Shaw

Luke Shaw should be ‘100 per cent’ worried about his status in the Man United squad, according to Gabby Agbonlahor.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England attacker delivered his verdict after Man United completed the signing of Tyrell Malacia from Feyenoord.

The club confirmed on Tuesday (5 July) that the left-back, who turns 23 next month, had become the signing of the Erik ten Hag era and their first arrival of the summer.

The Netherlands international has signed a four-year deal with the club having an option to extend it by a further 12 months.

He told club media that it is an “incredible feeling” to sign for United and he was looking forward to working with Ten Hag.

Asked whether the deal will make Shaw question his status in the squad, Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “100 per cent.

“Ten Hag wants competition for places like every manager, you don’t want players getting comfortable.

“The new signing from Feyenoord will add that.

“Luke Shaw has injury problems and Ten Hag will want a good option if Luke Shaw is injured.

“Luke Shaw has to come back to pre-season fighting because now he’s going to have pressure for his place.”

Shaw, 26, played 26 times across all competitions in 2021-22, including 19 Premier League starts.

The 2020-21 season is the only campaign he has managed more than 30 Premier League appearances for United since his £30million move from Southampton in the summer of 2014.

In other news, Kieran Maguire has saluted Man United as a £20million-a-year deal is struck because “no other club could do this”.
