Luis Diaz has delighted Liverpool fans with his latest goal for the club in their final pre-season friendly.

Liverpool beat Bundesliga side Darmstadt 3-1 at Preston’s Deepdale Stadium on Monday evening to round off their summer fixtures, with Diaz, Mohamed Salah and Diogo Jota on the scoresheet.

It was the Reds’ last game before they take on Chelsea in their Premier League opener at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.

Jurgen Klopp’s side are looking to get back into the Champions League after coming up short last season, but will have a Europa League campaign to contend with as well as domestic commitments.

Supporters’ excitement was upped though in the second half on Monday, when forward Diaz smartly flicked Dominik Szoboszlai’s corner past the Darmstadt goalkeeper to make it 3-1 on the night.

‘Insane finish by Luis Diaz,’ one fan said on Twitter following the strike.

‘People said they don’t make these anymore, but Luis Diaz is that guy,’ said another.

Fans were also convinced by the forward’s overall performance on the night. He managed 74 minutes against Darmstadt and appears to be first choice on the left for the Reds going into the new campaign.

The Colombian was out for several months with injury last season, but returned towards the back end of the campaign and is fit and ready to go for this term.

‘Luis Diaz is going to have a huge season, as long as he stays fit,’ said one Twitter user.

‘Almost think some have forgotten just how brilliant he is because of last season’s six-month layoff.’

‘Alexis Mac Allister and Luis Diaz are going to be very important this year,’ added a second. ‘Both excellent tonight.’

‘Luis Diaz is ripping up the Premier League this season. Mark my words,’ said a third.

Liverpool will travel to Stamford Bridge to take on Chelsea in their Premier League opener this weekend

Liverpool recorded three wins, one draw and one defeat from their five pre-season games over the summer.

They began preparations for the new campaign with a 4-2 win over Karlsruher SC in June, before drawing 4-4 with Greuther Furth behind closed doors.

They then beat Leicester 4-0 in Singapore, before losing 4-3 against Bayern Munich just a few days later.

Back in England, they finished their programme with Monday’s win and will now look forward to their trip to Stamford Bridge at the weekend.
