Logan Paul believes that he has learned from the mistakes made by Conor McGregor in his 2017 boxing debut against Floyd Mayweather.
Paul will face Mayweather in an exhibition bout on Sunday night at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, and is an even bigger underdog than the Irishman was in their crossover fight.
And after watching the event, which took place months before Paul would ever lace up a pair of gloves, the 26-year-old YouTube star believes he knows what it will take to avoid the situations in which McGregor found himself.
Speaking on the True Geordie Podcast , Paul explained his takeaways from the Mayweather-McGregor fight, going as far as saying he believes he could beat the UFC legend in a boxing match.
“That fight surprised me because we knew McGregor’s gas tank sucked,” Paul told host Brian Davis. “Conor knew that!
“Everyone knew that, so I’m not sure if his plan truly was to try and knock Floyd out in the first couple of rounds, which is a truly hard thing to do.
“If I knock Floyd out, it will be because God blessed me with some miraculous s*** and I catch him with some dumb s*** because he thinks I suck.
“I’m either going to knock him out, or it’s going to go the distance, but my conditioning is sick, I’m ready to f***ing go, I’m not going to punch myself out.
“I’m not going to get tired like Conor, I’m not going to get excited because maybe I landed one big punch – Floyd’s got a chin and he knows what he’s f***ing doing.”
Paul’s brother Jake has floated the idea of facing McGregor, but the elder of the two also believes that he has what it takes to beat the Irishman, who returns to the cage at UFC 264 this sumer.
“I think I could beat Conor in a boxing match right now,” he continued. “Conor doesn’t impress me. He gets tired.
“He’s a great athlete, a great performer. But I don’t know, man, one day we’re going to get good enough at this sport where conversations like this are happening and we’re better than these guys.
“What makes me laugh when Floyd says ‘June 6 I’m gonna knock you out’ – with all due respect, Mr Mayweather, what the f*** do you know about knocking people out?
“It’s been a decade. It’s been a decade since you knocked out Victor Ortiz in whatever b******* that was. I love Conor, I’m just saying in a boxing match.”
Paul has yet to prove he can knock out anybody in the boxing ring, let alone top stars like Mayweather and McGregor, with an 0-1 pro record following his sole white-collar bout.
He lost his first professional fight to fellow YouTube star JJ ‘KSI’ Olatunji in 2019, having drawn with him in their first bout in Manchester a year prior.
Meanwhile, his brother has forged a solid 3-0 pro boxing career, and will announce a fight with former UFC champion Tyron Woodley later today.
