Liverpool would look into any opportunity to bring former sporting director Michael Edwards back to the club.

The Reds are without a sporting director following Jorg Schmadtke’s exit in January and boss Jurgen Klopp is to leave at the end of the season.

Edwards joined Liverpool in 2011 and became sporting director in 2016 before leaving in summer 2022.

He has already turned down one approach to return to the Anfield side.

However, the club’s owners, Fenway Sports Group, hugely respect and admire Edwards and would explore any chance of getting him back.

Edwards brought in a number of key players during his time as Liverpool sporting director, including keeper Alisson Becker, defender Virgil van Dijk and forward Mohamed Salah.

He has been linked with a return to a number of clubs but instead works as a consultant for Ludonautics.

Ludonautics is a sports advisory business set up by Ian Graham, who was Liverpool’s director of research from 2012 to 2023.

There is a degree of urgency in the Reds appointing a sporting director, with the contracts of defender Trent Alexander-Arnold, Van Dijk and Salah running out in summer 2025.
