Liverpool are reportedly on the verge of selling English centre-back Ben Davies, with Rangers hoping to make him Calvin Bassey’s replacement at Ibrox.
Bassey is set to join Ajax in a deal worth £22.9million. According to Fabrizio Romano, he is in Amsterdam and completing a medical before signing his new contract.
Rangers know they need to find a successor in defence and have begun discussions with Liverpool for Davies.
The 26-year-old moved to Anfield in January last year, amid Liverpool’s centre-half crisis. But he is yet to make his senior debut for the Reds and spent last season on loan with Sheffield United.

Davies failed to impress at Bramall Lane in 21 appearances and the Blades have no interest in signing him permanently.
But he could now move to Rangers in a bid to get his career back on track. The Telegraph reporter John Percy states Rangers are finalising a deal with Liverpool for Davies.
The two sides are ‘very close’ to a transfer agreement which would see the player move north of the border. His medical should take place in the next few days.
Liverpool are set to make a profit on Davies, despite him never actually featuring in their starting eleven.
Jurgen Klopp’s side paid Preston North End an initial £500k for him, while add-ons may have taken the deal to £1.6m.
Rangers are paying Liverpool £4m to sign Davies. While 20 per cent of that will go to Preston, due to a sell-on clause, Liverpool are still making a profit.
Liverpool only brought Davies to Merseyside due to the likes of Virgil van Dijk, Joel Matip and Joe Gomez picking up injuries. Even Fabinho, who played at centre-back in their absence, got injured.
However, Davies was never actually needed and he will be happy to end his disappointing spell at the club. Plus, there is a good chance he will become an important player for Rangers.
Klopp will have no worries about Davies going. Van Dijk, Matip and Gomez are fit again, while the manager can also use Ibrahima Konate in defence.
The £3.2m Liverpool should receive from Davies’ exit will give them a small financial boost. Though it remains to be seen if the Reds will sign any more players after spending an initial £64m on Darwin Nunez.
Meanwhile, Trent Alexander-Arnold has been speaking about Nunez ahead of Liverpool’s next pre-season friendly against RB Leipzig.
