  • Liverpool defeated Lincoln City with a score of 7-2
  • Curtis Jones tallied a brace in their matchup
  • The Reds are scheduled to face Arsenal in their fourth-round matchup in the Carabao Cup
  • Liverpool was in top form in their Carabao Cup win against Lincoln City. Out of all players who stepped up for the Reds, Jurgen Klopp’s rising star Curtis Jones showed maximum effort on the field by scoring a brace.

It was an all-around effort for Liverpool as Klopp deployed Jones as one of the main sources of offense on the field. The defense of Lincoln City didn’t have a chance as the reigning Premier League champions delivered a 7-2 victory. Out of all the goals scored by the team, Jones’ contributions stood out as a midfielder.

“Coming into a competition like this, I think the underdog can always catch you a bit by surprise. But I thought the boys were 100% at it and I think they showed that today,” Jones told Liverpool FC.

The future of Liverpool is in good hands as other players such as Takumi Minamino also had a solid outing. The 25-year-old tallied two goals and overwhelmed the Lincoln City center halves with his speed and athleticism on the pitch. The duo of Jones and Minamino put on noteworthy performances that further highlights the potential of the club.

“I’m happy [with my goals] but more importantly the boys got the win and we go through to the next round,” Jones continued.

The coaching staff was also impressed with the team and especially Jones. For assistant manager Pep Lijinders, he described the 19-year-old as a proper squad player that’s currently a good fit for the team, as reported by Goal.

“They all count – a goal’s a goal to me. I’m happy the boys got the win and we’re through to the next round,” Jones added.

While it was an impressive game for the team’s younger players, Jones added that they would not be complacent in the coming matches.

“Every game that I play it’s an opportunity for me and the rest of the lads. Every game that I’m called upon, I’ve always said that I’ll give 100%. It’s what I try to do,” Jones emphasized.

The team will be facing Arsenal in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup on Sept. 28, 2020.

“I think the performances go and show a glimpse of what I’m capable of doing. But I’ve still got a lot to learn and I need to be patient and my time will come,” Jones added.
