However, midfield may be the priority but defence is another area Jurgen Klopp may want to address this summer. As the futures of Joel Matip and Joe Gomez is still up in the air, as well as the new role of Trent Alexander-Arnold, a versatile defender is certainly not off the cards.
The Reds have been linked with several defensive players including Julian Timber, Gonçalo Inacio, and Josko Gvardiol. New reports have thrown another name into the mix and seems to be progressing already.
According to reliable Bundesliga reporter, Christian Falk, Liverpool are in talks with the agents of Benjamin Pavard ahead of a surprising move from Bayern Munich.
Via CaughtOffside, Falk revealed that the Frenchman had revealed he wants to leave the Bundesliga champions this summer and that the Merseyside club are now a ‘hot candidate.’
Other clubs previously interested in the signing of the right-back are Chelsea, Barcelona, and Milan duo AC and Inter. The German reporter confirmed this article by giving it his usual green tick on Twitter just a few moments ago.
Pavard’s versatility to cover at centre-back could well be the major reason why Jurgen Klopp wants to bring him to Anfield. Along with the recent links of Manu Kone and Khephren Thuram, are Liverpool looking to bring in the next French XI?

Makes sense to me. Pavard can cover at centre-back as well as right-back, which would be ideal with the unreliability of both Joe Gomez and Joel Matip.
Christian Falk is a reliable journalist, so this deal may well be closer than we think. Once the talks with agents begin, it won’t be log before personal agreements are in place. I’m expecting this story to intensify over the next 24 hours.
