Liverpool fans have been reacting on social media to the claims that their side are in ‘advanced talks’ with RB Leipzig over a deal for Ibrahima Konate.
A report by The Athletic on Monday morning claimed that the Reds have made ‘significant progress’ in recent days in a bid to land the 21-year-old this summer.
The French international is predominantly a centre-back, but is also capable of playing at right-back or as a wing-back.
It has been claimed that the fee involved would be in the region of £40m, which is said to be Konate’s release clause in his contract with the Bundesliga outfit.
Konate has made just 15 appearances in all competitions for his side so far this season and was an unused substitute for both legs of the Champions League last-16 tie against the Reds earlier this month.
And below is how Liverpool fans have been reacting to the claims on Twitter.
Speaking in January of this year, Leipzig CEO Oliver Mintzlaff claimed his side’s future transfer business would hinge on further player sales at the club.
He said: “What I can rule out after the Szoboszlai transfer is that we will get more players this winter or summer without us giving up any.
“If it makes financial sense and we can absorb it sportily. When I think of Werner, Cunha, Keita or Demme, we have already redeemed a lot and still developed further in terms of sport.”
Leipzig are already set to lose one of their star defenders this summer, with Dayot Upamecano having already agreed to join Bayern Munich at the end of the season.
