Liverpool fans were puzzled by Martin Tyler after he suggested Chelsea should be given a guard of honour for beating Manchester City and confirming the Premier League title for the Reds.

The Reds were met with a round of applause by the Blues for their final home match of the season before kick-off ahead of the official Premier League presentation of the trophy.

After the full-time whistle, Jordan Henderson got his hands on the trophy as Liverpool were officially crowned champions of England for the first time in 30 years.

As with every game since Liverpool were confirmed as title winners, they were met with a guard of honour by Frank Lampard’s side ahead of kick-off.

However, Tyler surprised the entire red half of Merseyside with his remark, claiming it should be Liverpool offering their applause for Chelsea, reports the Echo.

“Chelsea are giving Liverpool a guard of honour but perhaps it should be the other way round after Chelsea’s beating of Manchester City confirmed Liverpool as champions,” he said before kick-off.

Plenty of Liverpool fans took to social media and here’s what they had to say.

Liverpool ran out 5-3 winners against Chelsea in an open game at Anfield.

Jurgan Klopp’s men then lifted the Premier League trophy for the first time amid scenes of fireworks and celebrations despite no fans being inside the stadium.
