Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp makes Darwin Nunez and Fabio Carvalho admission ahead of Manchester United

Carvalho #Carvalho

Darwin Nunez and Fabio Carvalho will make their first appearances for Liverpool against Manchester United this afternoon, Jurgen Klopp has confirmed.

The Reds will face their arch-rivals in Southeast Asia on Tuesday afternoon at the Rajamangala National Stadium in their first of four pre-season fixtures before next month’s Premier League curtain-raiser against Fulham next month.

And with Klopp naming a squad of 37 – littered with youngsters – for the tour of Thailand, he has dropped the first indication of who we can expect to see line-up this afternoon against Erik Ten Hag’s side.

“The international boys only started back with us on Monday but, as you can imagine, they have come back in outstanding shape, which is not a surprise, so that means they will get some time tonight”, said Klopp speaking to Liverpooolfc.com.

“We will make plenty of changes too, of course, throughout the game. We will need to. It means Darwin will be in the squad and Fabio will play for us for the first time and I’m sure our supporters will be pleased about that.

“But the game is an important one in our preparations, so we will give it a try and any game against United is always a good one.”

Nunez made the move to Anfield last month for what could end up being a club-record fee if performance-related add-ons are met during his stay on Merseyside, while Carvalho finally joined up with his new teammates at the AXA Training Centre last week after missing out on a move to Liverpool at the eleventh hour on transfer deadline day in January.

One player who will not feature against United is forward Diogo Jota, with Klopp confirming that the injury he sustained in Portugal’s Nations League match against Switzerland in June has ruled him out of this one.

“The plan for United is to use all of our players, except a couple maybe,” said Klopp.

“We will see, but we know one of them is Diogo because of a little issue he has from earlier in the summer.

“It’s nothing serious but we decided not to take the risk with him for this game, especially as it’s only our first game of the pre-season.

“Pretty much all of the rest of the boys will all get some minutes. We have brought a big squad here, some young boys and the more senior guys, and we give them all some time.”
