Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has ‘bottle thrown’ at him from Everton fans after VAR call
Klopp #Klopp
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp was ‘narrowly’ missed by a bottle thrown by Everton fans moments after Conor Coady’s goal was ruled out for offside by VAR. The Merseyside derby has always thrown up drama on the pitch with plenty of red cards and tough challenges flying in.
Anthony Taylor was letting things go throughout the match though to allow the game to flow more with the first yellow card not shown until the 38th minute. In terms of goalmouth action, chances were few and far between with both defences standing strong.
Jordan Pickford was proving unbeatable in Everton’s goal too with a handful of unbelievable saves. And Everton thought they had broken the deadlock midway through the second half when Coady tapped in from close range.
Neal Maupay had brought down the ball and pushed a shot-cum-cross towards the backpost where Coady was waiting to tap into for an easy finish. Jubilant celebrations followed with Goodison Park rocking, but VAR replays soon indicated that Coady was in an offside position.
Once the goal was officially ruled out, there were soon reports that an Everton fan had thrown an empty beer bottle in the direction of Klopp on the touchlines.
Everton icon Peter Reid couldn’t believe what he saw, calling it a “disgrace”.
“There’s no need for that. We don’t want that,” Reid said on talkSPORT.
