Simon Dobbin, a Cambridge United fan who was left with life-changing injuries after he was attacked by football hooligans, has passed away.
Tributes have flooded in after the announcement this afternoon, with friends and family paying tribute to Simon and reacting to the ‘devastating news’ of his death.
Cambridge United posted on Twitter: “It is with a heavy heart that Cambridge United can confirm we have received the devastating news that Simon Dobbin sadly passed away at home this morning.
“Sweet dreams Simon. Forever a U.”
Another wrote: “What a sad time and just because he wanted to watch a game with his mates. RIP Dobbo.”
Simon was left with devastating injuries after a vicious attack by football hooligans on March 21, 2015.
The group of thugs attacked Simon and his friends in Southend, Essex, ambushing them after they had watched a football match.
Simon suffered swelling on his brain after the thugs stomped on his head.
The attack left him permanently brain-damaged and from that day he was left unable to walk, talk or control his movements.
