Lions fear ACL injury for forward Hipwood

The Brisbane Lions’ AFL premiership hopes could receive a blow with the club fearing forward Eric Hipwood has injured his ACL. The 23-year-old went off late in the first quarter of the Lions’ clash with St Kilda at Metricon Stadium on Saturday night. Hipwood went up for a mark, received a free kick for a push in the back, but fell awkwardly. If scans confirm a season-ending knee injury, it would leave a giant hole in the Lions’ forward line with Hipwood having kicked 26 goals this season. After enjoying a relatively injury-free run during 2019 and 2020, Hipwood could become the second Lions ace to go down with an ACL this year. Dynamic forward Cameron Rayner hurt his knee during a pre-season game at Metricon Stadium in March and was ruled out for the year. Brisbane are on track for a third-consecutive top-four finish after winning 10 of their last 11 games. Australian Associated Press
