Let’s start here.
Rapper Lil Yachty chose Liberty Science Center in Jersey City to introduce his new album to the world.
The rapper, a Georgia native, shared an invite on Instagram Thursday, tagging himself at Liberty Science Center’s Jennifer Chalsty Planetarium and asking fans to arrive early for the listening party for “Let’s Start Here,” his first album since 2020.
Later, Liberty Science Center shared photos of Lil Yachty from the event, billed the Lil Yachty Album Listening Experience in invitations shared by fans on social media.
The photos showed Yachty, 25, on the mic and with rappers Drake and Offset at the science center planetarium.
“Huge congrats to Lil Yachty, who’s dropping his new album, Let’s Start Here, tonight in our planetarium!” the center’s Instagram account said in a post.
“All night, Yachty is playing the album for a packed theater of fans and special guests, with the music accompanied by custom 360 visuals. LSC’s Jennifer Chalsty Planetarium is the largest planetarium in the country. Its dome has a diameter of 89 feet, a lighting system capable of producing over 281 trillion colors, and five speaker arrays and 16 subwoofers generating 30,000 watts of sound. There’s no better place for an album listening party! Thanks for thinking of us, Lil Yachty, and congrats again!”
Lil Yachty’s first album, “Teenage Emotions,” hit No. 5 on the Billboard 200 in 2017. He broke through in 2016 with a feature on the DRAM song “Broccoli,” which made it to No. 5 on the Billboard Hot 100. “iSpy,” his song with KYLE, reached No. 4 on the chart in 2017. His highest-charting album was “Lil Boat 2,” which peaked at No. 2 in 2018.
His most recent hit was the song “Poland,” released in October. Yachty’s fourth album, “Lil Boat 3,” came out in May 2020.
The 14-track “Let’s Start Here,” released Friday by Quality Control Music and Motown Records, is Yachty’s fifth studio album. The album cover features art generated by artificial intelligence depicting a group of people in suits with distorted faces.
He teased the album by saying the new music would be “non-rap” and have psychedelic and alternative influences.
Offset, the rapper’s fellow Georgia native from Yachty collaborators the Migos, is married to Cardi B, who owns a home in Tenafly.
The couple was seen at the American Dream mega mall in East Rutherford in December with their children, daughter Kulture, 4, and son Wave, 1.
