Lil Durk & Lil Baby Among Hip-Hop Stars Honored With Yammy Awards

Lil Baby #LilBaby

Lil Durk and Lil Baby will have to wait until March 14 to find out if they will win in their categories at the 63rd annual Grammy Awards, but they and two other hip-hop stars were honored on Monday (Jan. 18) with Yammy Awards as part of Yams Day 2021.

Yams Day honors A$AP Yams (real name Steven Rodriguez), the co-founder of A$AP Mob, the hip-hop collective that has spawned such stars as A$AP Rocky, A$AP Ferg and Playboi Carti.

The annual tribute is held on Jan. 18, which was the date of Rodriguez’s death in 2015 at age 26. This year’s event, which was held virtually because of the pandemic,  included an hour-long documentary about A$AP Yams, music previews from A$AP Rocky and the Yammy award presentations.

Lil Durk, who is a double Grammy nominee for “Laugh Now, Cry Later,” a collab with Drake, won the new level award. Lil Baby, a Grammy nominee for “The Bigger Picture,” won the Yammy for Yamborghini High award.

Two other Yammy winners — Young Thug and Teezo Touchdown — were not Grammy-nominated this year.
