TAMPA — The Lightning have moved one step closer toward a solution for their salary cap issues heading into the 2020-21 season with a late trade Tuesday night.

According to ESPN’s Emily Kaplan, the Lightning have traded Tyler Johnson and their second-round pick of the 2023 NHL draft in exchange for defenseman Brent Seabrook.

Johnson had a modified no-trade clause with Tampa Bay and Chicago was on his list of acceptable destinations if he was traded away. In nine seasons with the Lightning, Johnson logged 161 goals and 200 assists.
