Lewis Hamilton’s start to the 2022 season has been a disaster, with Imola particularly galling – but what is his worst ever finish in F1?
Chances are, Lewis Hamilton will not get his record-breaking eighth world title in 2022.
The Mercedes W13 is badly off the pace, with Hamilton labouring to a 13th place finish at Imola – as teammate George Russell took fourth.
Hamilton’s Imola weekend was a bit of a disaster, walking away pointless after a dreadful weekend as the car struggles.
Team boss Toto Wolff called it “undriveable” on the radio after Hamilton finished outside the points.
But what is Lewis Hamilton’s worst ever result in F1? Where is the lowest he has finished in a grand prix?

Lewis Hamilton worst finish
Well, the worst result Lewis Hamilton has ever posted in F1 has been a DNF.
He’s recorded 22 of them from his debut in the 2007 Australian Grand Prix to the 2022 Emilia Romagna Grand Prix at Imola – 292 starts ago.
When he has actually been running at the flag, Lewis Hamilton’s worst results have been in 2009.
That year, the reigning champion was hampered by an uncompetitive McLaren MP4-24 – the team misjudging the new aero rules.
Hamilton has even described the 2022 Mercedes as feeling as bad as the 2009 McLaren.

His worst ever finish in F1 came at the 2009 German Grand Prix at the Nurburgring.
He came home in 18th place, one lap down on race winner Mark Webber.
It followed results of ninth, 12th, 13th, and 16th in the races in Spain, Monaco, Turkey and Britain.
Fortunately, he won the next race in Hungary.
What about Mercedes?
In his Mercedes career, Hamilton has only finished outside the points on one occasion.
That came at the 2021 Azerbaijan Grand Prix with a 15th place finish.
In Baku, he locked up at the first corner on the restart after a red flag after hitting a brake button on the steering wheel by accident.
With two just laps left in the race after the restart, Hamilton trailed home in last place as Sergio Perez won and Hamilton threw away 25 points, eventually losing the title to Max Verstappen, who retired, by eight…
