Leighton Buzzard hit by third earthquake in two weeks
Leighton Buzzard #LeightonBuzzard
A third earthquake in two weeks has struck Leighton Buzzard, with residents describing the ground rumbling and their homes shaking as it they had been hit by a truck.
The British Geological Survey (BGS) issued a “seismic activity alert” after the 3.0-magnitude tremor struck the Bedfordshire town at a depth of 10km at about 8.30am.
It comes after a 2.1-magnitude earthquake occurred in the town on September 13, after another larger 3.5-magnitude tremor on September 8. The latest activity could be part of a “swarm” of earthquakes in town, according to seismologists.
Clusters of quakes are common and today’s tremor could have been an aftershock from the first and largest of the three two weeks ago, which left walls cracked and toppled furniture.
