A gathering of thousands of England fans in London’s Leicester Square descended into mayhem as ‘fans’ threw glass bottles and smashed windows on Sunday 11 July. Reckless fans endangered themselves and others in the area when they threw glass bottles in the air and directly at the windows of a Burger King on the square. Earlier in the day fans in the square threw bottles at a fan who had climbed on a nearby cinema’s doorway roof, while supposed fans outside Wembley Stadium were also filmed throwing bottles into the air. It appeared that England fans in the space of a few hours had left more mess, and considerably more broken glass, in the square than rival Scotland fans did when they used it as an unofficial fan zone for their match against England earlier in the tournament.
