Boxing Day game even bigger

As one of the traditions of the English game, the Boxing Day fixture is always an important one to look out for. But this year it will be especially so.

That’s because Boxing Day marks the return to club action after more than a month out following the World Cup. City will play their last game before Qatar on the weekend of November 12/13 and then, for the players not involved internationally, they will have a rare mid-season break before resuming on Boxing Day.

With such a long break, the Boxing Day game may then feel a little like the opening fixture, where there is pressure to get off to a good start and build early momentum.

Interestingly, since City have been back in the Premier League, six of their eight Boxing Day games have been against ‘big six’ clubs, including two each against Liverpool and Manchester City.
