Lee Grant has signed a new Manchester United contract.

The 38-year-old goalkeeper joined the club in 2018 and has agreed to stay for another year, despite the arrival of Tom Heaton.

Heaton, 35, is United’s new third-choice goalkeeper behind David de Gea and Dean Henderson, with Grant now fourth in the pecking order.

The Manchester Evening News previously reported United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is understood to be edging towards Dean Henderson as his number one at the start of next season.

Solskjaer has admitted the De Gea-Henderson dynamic is unsustainable for a second season after pair competed with each other last season.

De Gea, 30, is United’s highest earner on £375,000-a-week and has two years left on his contract. Henderson, 24, signed a five-year contract worth around £120,000-a-week last August.

Grant has only played twice for United since he signed from Stoke for £1.5million three years ago and was listed as a coach on certain teamsheets last season.

Both Heaton and Grant excelled for their former clubs in draws at Old Trafford back in October 2016. Heaton somehow prevented United from scoring in a goalless stalemate with Burnley while Grant helped Stoke secure a 1-1 draw.
