Kyrie Irving will likely be on the move ahead of Thursday’s NBA trade deadline.
The Brooklyn Nets star reportedly requested a trade on Friday, and there was subsequent rampant speculation regarding where the 30-year-old point guard will finish the 2022-23 season. Irving is a free agent after the season and has been seeking an extension.
However, LeBron James threw some fuel on the fire with a cryptic, two-emoji tweet that had fans thinking a reunion in Los Angeles could be in order.
Irving and James previously played together for the Cleveland Cavaliers, winning an NBA Championship in 2016. The Lakers sit at 25-28 and rank 12th in the Western Conference and could be looking to make a splashy move to turn things around in the second half of the season.
ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski listed the Lakers as a potential suitor for Irving, alongside the Dallas Mavericks and Phoenix Suns, and NBA Twitter went wild at the thought of LeBron and Kyrie playing together again as the former seeks his fifth ring.
