Lauren Boebert’s Mom Reveals Rep.’s Eminem Rap: ‘I Still Make Her Sing It’

Colorado congresswoman Lauren Boebert is used to causing controversy, but few of her endeavors have raised eyebrows like her reported stint as a rapper.

According to Boebert’s mom, Shawna Bentz, the 36-year-old was a huge fan of Eminem as a teenager. The hip-hop icon inspired Boebert to give rapping a try, with the Republican politician taking part in rap battles after school.

Boebert even wrote a rap about Eminem for the MTV show FANatic (1998-2000), in which super fans submitted outrageous audition tapes in the hopes of interviewing their favorite celebrity.

Bentz described the rap as “amazing,” but never sent the tape to MTV.

“I wasn’t the kind of mom to do whatever you had to do to make things happen,” she recently told The Washington Post. “So I never did anything with it. But I still make her sing it to me today.”

However, Boebert claimed the rap was “never recorded,” which she said is “maybe a really good thing.”

Since becoming a representative for Colorado’s 3rd congressional district in 2021, Boebert has hit headlines on several occasions.

A gun-rights advocate and Christian nationalist, her far-right views have won her both devoted supporters and fierce critics, as has her dedication to Donald Trump—with the former president endorsing Boebert in the 2024 state elections.

The congresswoman came under fire in 2021 for opposing the Equality Act, describing the bill as “Supremacy of Gays, Lesbians and Transvestites.” That same year, Boebert was slammed for claiming Representative Ilhan Omar was a member of the “jihad squad,” suggesting the Minnesota Democrat was a terrorist.

In December, Boebert announced that she had relocated and would be running in Colorado’s 4th congressional district in 2024. The move followed a near-defeat by Democratic rival Adam Frisch in 2022, but her decision to change districts divided supporters, with some constituents accusing Boebert of abandoning them.

Boebert’s personal life has also faced brutal public scrutiny. In September, the mom-of-four and date were thrown out of Buell Theater in Denver for “causing a disturbance,” with the couple allegedly vaping, fondling, “being loud” and using their phones during a performance of Beetlejuice: The Musical.

The incident reportedly lost Boebert multiple sponsors, with several endorsing her GOP rival Jeff Hurd instead.

Boebert addressed her Beetlejuice exit on X, formerly Twitter, writing: “I plead guilty to laughing and singing too loud. Everyone should go see it if you get the chance this week and please let me know how it ends!”

Her son, Tyler Boebert, was arrested in Rifle, Colorado, on February 28. The 18-year-old was charged with 22 offenses following “a recent string of vehicle trespass and property thefts in Rifle,” according to a Facebook post from the Rifle Police Department.

“It breaks my heart to see my child struggling and, in this situation, especially when he has been provided multiple opportunities to get his life on track,” Boebert told Newsweek in a statement.

“I will never give up on him and I will continue to be there for him. As an adult and father, Tyler will take responsibility for his actions and should be held accountable for poor decisions just like any other citizen.”
