Laura Woods became talkSPORT legend for owning trolls, Ally McCoist partnership and keeping Jamie O’Hara on his toes

Woodsy #Woodsy

Laura Woods is leaving the talkSPORT Sports Breakfast after three wonderful years.

But whilst listeners will miss hearing her talk to the nation as host of the Breakfast show (don’t worry she’ll still be part of the talkSPORT family), ‘Woodsy’ certainly won’t be forgotten thanks to a number of iconic moments during her time here.

Woodsy became talkSPORT Breakfast host in 2020 and has lived rent free in her Tottenham supporting close friend Jamie O’Hara’s head ever since.

The Arsenal supporter has already been a real trailblazer for aspiring female sports broadcasters and journalists worldwide, as well as bringing listeners hours worth of laughter.

Here, talkSPORT.com looks at some of her best moment listeners loved.

Celebration Police

There have been many times the Breakfast host rushed to her beloved Arsenal’s defence.

But it was her response to former Sky Sports presenter Richard Keys and co’s criticism of Arsenal’s celebrations after their win over Fulham that went down an absolute treat with fans.

Bringing up the 2-1 win that saw Gabriel score a last-minute winner to continue their perfect start to the season, Woodsy laughed: “But hang on, Arsenal fans, apparently you’re not allowed to celebrate and this is according to, oh, Richard Keys and Andy Gray of beIN Sport!”

“People go and pay to watch football to watch the football,” she continued. “They pay subscriptions to watch it on the telly. And then they spend their weekend talking to their mates, bragging to their mates, going out, having a drink, enjoying themselves. That is literally what it’s about.

“We’re just celebrating a game. It means something to somebody. Get over it. Get over it, guys!”

Would it really be a Woodsy highlight reel if we didn’t include one of the moments she shut down a Spurs fan?

Tottenham supporter Dan called the show in March to tell her that Arsenal were only sitting top of the league as ‘everything was going their way’. But Woodsy knew exactly how to handle the sleight.

As Dan ranted, Woodsy simply grinned before saying: “Do you know what I heard there in your wonderful rant? ‘Waa, waa, waa, waa, oh god, we lost 1-0 to Wolves, what’s the best thing I can do on a Monday morning? I can call up talkSPORT and cry about Arsenal having a good season and all we are is depressed’.”

Ally McCoist was then in fits as Woods asked Dan if he was talkSPORT’s Adrian Durham in disguise given he has been known to stick the knife into Gooners on many occasions.

And, as if Dan wasn’t embarrassed enough, Woodsy signed off with: “Dan it’s been lovely speaking to you this morning!” she smiled. “Enjoy the rest of your miserable season.”

Speaking of Spurs fans, Woodsy’s regular banter with resident Tottenham supporter Jamie O’Hara has gone down a treat on the airwaves over the years.

And despite having to deal with Arsenal failing to win the title this year, Woodsy still managed to own talkSPORT’s Sports Bar host as he tried to enjoy the Gunners’ downfall.

“My favourite moment from the weekend was that he sent me a DM about Arsenal’s performances, forgetting that I watch football and understand what happened to Spurs as well,” she told her listeners.

“I went onto his Twitter page – loads of people tagged me in this – what he meant to do was post a photo of an apple crumble, right? To say that Arsenal are crumbling, but he didn’t – he just put a pie up.

“So there’s just a piece of pie…come on, Jamie. You can’t even get that right! It wasn’t even a crumble, come on, Jamie! Bless him.”

Covering the sex noise heard on the BBC’s coverage of Liverpool vs Wolves in the FA Cup wouldn’t have been an easy task.

But just as they’ve always done whilst on air together, Woodsy and McCoist managed to find themselves in fits of laughter as they talked about the hilarious incident.

With Woods explaining how presenter Gary Lineker and hosts Danny Murphy and Paul Ince tried to talk over the noise, she said: “You know when someone pranks you and you open your phone and they tell you to turn it up really loud and then it’s a women enjoying herself… Sexually.”

McCoist then cracked up, saying: “Enjoying herself! She was having the time of her life never mind enjoying herself!”

“If that’s the standard, then we’ve all been doing it wrong!” Woodsy laughed.

What a duo.

Getting the last laugh

In three years, Woodsy has only appeared rattled once… for a matter of seconds.

That’s because co-host McCoist and the Breakfast team tricked her into thinking her celebrity crush was about to join the show live!

Having discussed their dream dinner dates, Woodsy told Ally that actor Leo Suter, who plays Harald Sigurdsson in Netflix show Vikings Valhalla, would be hers.

“Thank God for that,” she said as she breathed a sigh of relief. “Oh my god don’t panic me like that! I thought you were going to play something.”

But then she still got the last laugh when she threatened to take away his ticket for Chelsea vs Liverpool that night…
