Lakers sign Carmelo Anthony to one-year deal

After landing Russell Westbrook in a blockbuster trade on draft day last week, the Lakers have been filling out their roster with shooters and role players since free agency opened on Monday night.

The new-look Lakers squad will be full of veterans, with Kent Bazemore, Dwight Howard, Wayne Ellington, Trevor Ariza and Malik Monk. On Tuesday, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski also reported that a future Hall of Famer is headed to Los Angeles.

After establishing himself as a key role player in Portland over two seasons, 37-year-old Carmelo Anthony is coming to the Lakers on a one-year deal. Anthony will finally be teaming up with his close friend, LeBron James, in what will be each player’s 20th NBA season.

The Lakers desperately needed to add shooting around James and Anthony Davis, and Anthony should be able to deliver. He shot 40.9 percent from three last season, the second-best mark of his career.
