Village of Lake Hallie police officers were injured Wednesday by a Cameron man who allegedly caused $9,500 damage to a vehicle, then fought with officers and resisted arrest.

According to a press release by Lake Hallie police chief Edward Orgon, village police were dispatched to the 4200 block of 119th Avenue for a man who had been drinking and damaging vehicles. An officer observed a man who fit the description walking on the 40th Avenue bridge over Highway 53.

While speaking with Michael Ludwigson, 37, of Cameron, the officer learned he was intoxicated and under the influence of illegal narcotics, Orgon stated.

Orgon stated that Ludwigson provided the officer with suspected marijuana and suspected smoking devices from his lunchbox “but continued to hold a bottle of whiskey in his hands and refused to give it to the officer.”

Officers attempted to arrest Ludwigson for criminal damage to property when it was learned that Ludwigson had allegedly caused damage to vehicles nearby.

Ludwigson refused commands to comply and was taken to the ground, where he continued to fight with officers and refused commands to stop resisting, the release states.

“Ludwigson used derogatory names toward officers and continued to swear at officers. During the arrest, Ludwigson spit, clawed, kicked at officers, bit an officer in the leg and was subsequently Tased as he continued to resist arrest and was eventually handcuffed,” Orgon stated. “Once EMS arrived on scene, Ludwigson continued to resist and spit on EMS personnel and was given medication to help calm him down.”

Ludwigson was transported to the hospital for observation. During the incident, officers received minor injuries, Orgon stated.

Once released from the hospital Ludwigson was transported to the Chippewa County Jail and faces possible charges of felony criminal damage to property, resisting arrest, two counts of battery to a public officer, two counts of discharge of bodily fluids at a public safety officer, two counts of misdemeanor criminal damage, possession of THC and possession drug paraphernalia.

According to Wisconsin Circuit Court records, Ludwigson was convicted of eluding an officer and operating a vehicle with a revoked license in 2022 and disorderly conduct and domestic abuse in 2018.
