RANGERS have not conceded a penalty in almost TWO YEARS of league action.

And the record continued as they ran out 2-0 winners over Motherwell.

Philippe Clement’s side clawed back three points on Celtic to move within two points of the league leaders.

And they kept a clean sheet as Kieran Dowell and Todd Cantwell found the net.

But Motherwell could’ve had a penalty as Cyriel Dessers was involved in a scuffle with Mika Biereth in the Rangers penalty box.

Biereth looked to be in a good position to knock in a rebound but was pulled to the ground by Dessers.

But the referee waved play on as he deemed it not a foul with no intervention by VAR.

And ex-Rangers striker Kris Boyd is expecting ‘conspiracy theories’ to return after the latest decision.

Speaking on Sky Sports he said: “”I would be claiming for it.”

He then rolled his eyes and added “the conspiracy theories will be out again tonight.”

But fellow pundit James McFadden is adamant it was a penalty.

He said: “For me that’s a penalty. It’s a pull back and when the ball comes back off Jack Butland it’s going straight into the path of Biereth who would probably put it in the back of the net.”

Scott Arfield agreed with McFadden and added: “I think it is a penalty, I agree with James.

“Without a doubt from motherwell’s point of view they should feel really aggrieved with that because I’ve definitely saw them given.”

Motherwell manager Stuart Kettlewell also admitted his side were unfortunate not to have the opportunity to take a spot kick.

He said: “There’s one (penalty call) that I’ve saw back on Mika Biereth from the footage we have.

“I think it’s a free kick in the wide area. Mika Biereth is at the back post as if he’s going to get the next contact on the ball with a free shot at goal.

“Quite clearly his arm was pulled and he’s hauled to the ground so again I’m seeing these given on a weekly basis.

“That might’ve been the opportunity for us from the penalty spot potentially to get back in the game.”
