Today marks four years since the tragic passing of Kobe Bryant. While the NBA legend is still greatly missed, it is comforting to see his legacy shine bright in the sport of basketball and the sneaker industry.
While most younger fans will only identify Bryant as the “Black Mamba” who wore number 24 with Nike sneakers, older fans will remember his unforgettable era with adidas. Bryant had two signature sneaker lines with adidas and represented the brand during his first three championships with the Los Angeles Lakers.
A detailed look at the adidas Crazy 1.
adidas
After Bryant left adidas in the summer of 2002, the brand held onto the shoes popularized by the hoops legend. Bryant’s shoes were rebranded and released as retro models throughout the years. Luckily for loyal fans, adidas has opened up the archives over the past year.
Online shoppers can choose between multiple models and colorways worn by Bryant at a discount on the adidas website. Our personal favorite is the adidas Crazy 1 (formerly known as “The Kobe”), which is available in three colorways.
It has been a long and painful four years as fans deal with the grief of losing their sports hero. The inability to purchase most of Bryant’s most popular retro sneakers and memorabilia has made that even worse.
But we think that picking up a pair of old-school adidas Kobe sneakers will help us feel better and think back fondly of all the great moments Bryant provided us over the years. Follow Men’s Journal Sneakers for all your daily footwear news.
