Jurgen Klopp has asked the Liverpool board for two more signings before the October transfer deadline, according to a report.
The transferwindow shuts on October 5 and with just Kostas Tsimikas added to the champions’ squad to date, Klopp is chasing two more additions.
That is the view from The Atheltic, with James Pearce suggesting that Klopp would prefer to add a couple of players to his squad.
The German coach would normally get his transfer business done as early as possible, but the rescheduled 2019/20 campaign and short pre-season have hindered the Reds and other clubs.
The Reds are also set to foot the biggest coronavirus bill from broadcasters of any Premier League club.
The champions are set to see a £17.3m cut in their television revenue from last season as a result of the Covid-19 crisis.
Klopp is well aware of the financial restrictions facing the club with estimates the club could have been hit to the tune of £100m due to the pandemic.
Still Klopp is chasing another centre-back after the sale of Dejan Lovren earlier in the summer and that is said to be a priority.
The club have also been heavily linked with Bayern Munich midfielder Thiago, while Watford forward Ismaila Sarr is also claimed to be a target.
Watford though want £40m for Sarr, while Thiago is priced at £27m and it’s reported that Liverpool think prices will drop as the October deadline approaches.
The Reds have not held talks with Thiago and Klopp has publicly refused to admit any interest in the Spain star.
Liverpool could sign an agreement with him in January that will see the player join for nothing next summer.
Apparently there is no friction with Klopp over his side’s lack of transfer activity and his relationship with FSG president Mike Gordon and transfer guru Michael Edwards remains good.
