If there’s one player that could break Klay Thompson’s single-game 3-point record, it’s Klay Thompson.

Or Steph Curry. It’s never wise to rule that guy out.

Thompson drained a whopping 12 3-pointers in the Warriors’ 141-114 win over the Oklahoma City Thunder on Monday night at Chase Center. He finished just two triples shy of the NBA’s single-game record of 14 set by none other than himself on Oct. 29, 2018, against the Chicago Bulls.

In speaking with NBC Sports Bay Area’s Kerith Burke, Chris Mullin and Festus Ezeli on “Warriors Postgame Live,” Thompson was asked if he had hoped to stay in the game in an attempt to pursue his own single-game 3-point record before being removed with 4:41 remaining in the fourth quarter.

“Oh man, I was campaigning for it, but we got a quick turnaround on Wednesday and I don’t think the basketball gods like when you chase records. You got to let those happen organically,” Thompson said.

Thompson finished the game with 42 points on 15-of-22 shooting from the field and an eye-popping 12-of-16 from 3-point range.

Coming that close to breaking such a prestigious record certainly would be disheartening for anyone who already wasn’t the current record older.
