Klay’s amazingly meta rationale for pre-Game 5 swim in Bay
It’s no secret that Klay Thompson loves the ocean, hence the “Captain Klay” nickname.
After the Warriors returned to the Bay Area following two NBA Finals games in Boston, Thompson headed straight for the water for a swim, posting a picture on Saturday with the caption: “The ocean heals the mind, body and soul.”
Two days later, Thompson scored 21 points and drilled five 3-pointers to help the Warriors win Game 5 over the Boston Celtics 104-94 and claw within one victory of another championship.
And afterwards, Thompson was asked about dipping into the ocean in the middle of the series.
“You know the Bay,” Thompson said. “It doesn’t matter what time of year it is. It can be cold. It’s one of those days where it’s in the low 60s and the sun is shining, I make it a point to jump in the ocean.”
Rather than hop in the pool or the cold tub, Thompson said that he prefers the ocean because it has “healing properties.”
“Just to be immersed in nature like that, it really makes me happy and just your whole body feels so great when you get out of that cold water,” Thompson said. “And honestly you just feel a little closer to God when you look up at the beautiful skies.”

Thompson ended his answer by revealing his astrological sign.
“I’m an Aquarius, so I’ve always loved the water my whole life,” Thompson said. “It really is my happy place besides the hardwood.”
Leave it to Thompson to make a quote about the ocean extremely interesting. He’ll have to savor last weekend’s trip into San Francisco Bay, though, as the Warriors will fly to Boston for Game 6 on Thursday.
Thompson will hope that the next time he dips into the ocean, it will be with a fourth ring on his finger.
