Kirstie Alley has defended her decision to vote for President Donald Trump in the US election, stating that he’s ‘not a politician’.

The former Celebrity Big Brother star announced that she was siding with the Republican Party in the upcoming presidential election but, naturally, faced a storm of backlash for supporting the divisive POTUS.

She declared: ‘I’m voting for @realDonaldTrump because he’s NOT a politician. I voted for him 4 years ago for this reason and shall vote for him again for this reason. He gets things done quickly and he will turn the economy around quickly. There you have it folks there you have it.’

Several hours later, Kirstie, 69, revealed she had been bombarded with criticism from trolls incensed by her snubbing Joe Biden and the Democrats.

‘Don’t think I’ve ever seen so much name-calling in my life. Definitely not on my site here anyway I guess I’m not allowed to have a viewpoint without being called a really nasty names by what I’m going to suppose are really nasty people,’ she tweeted.

Kirstie later added: ‘Stick to your guns. Not always easy to be under fire but always easier than going against your own integrity. & JUST REMEMBER: if it takes thousands to try & bring u down, you must be one powerful Mfer Love wins.’

It’s not the first the Hollywood star has publicly expressed her support for Trump.

In March, the Look Who’s Talking actress thanked the president for his handling of the coronavirus pandemic despite widespread criticism he was receiving at the time.

‘Dear Mr. President, @realDonaldTrump I wanted to thank you for ur recent decorum, sincerity, & care towards us,’ Kirstie tweeted.

‘You’re taking charge & leading in a manner needed & wanted for this country. I highly commend you for ur boundless energy & willingness to solve problems. Thank you.’

Her sentiments didn’t go unnoticed as Trump replied: ‘Thank you Kirstie!’

In 2016, Kirstie initially backed Trump in his first presidential campaign but backtracked when he became embroiled in controversy.

She announced: ‘I love this..but I hate this election and I’m officially no longer endorsing either candidate..I’m voting for the woman with the ladder.’

However, Trump clearly didn’t get the memo as he went on to continue using her supportive comments about him in his campaign promos.
