Killer Mike Taps JID, T.I. and Jacquees To Pay Homage to Atlanta on “MAYNARD VIGNETTE”

Killer Mike‘s MICHAEL, the rapper’s first solo project in over a decade, proved quite the return for the Run the Jewels legend. Now, nearly three months after the star-studded LP’s drop, the Atlanta rapper has announced that MICHAEL DELUXE is on the way very soon and unveiled the first cut from the project, “MAYNARD VIGNETTE”, which sees features from JID, T.I. and Jacquees.

“MAYNARD VIGNETTE” is named after Maynard Jackson, Atlanta’s 54th mayor, to whom Killer Mike pays tribute in the track’s lyrics and visuals – which sees an artist painting a life-size mural of the Atlanta figure. In the nostalgic montage-esque music video, Killer Mike heads to the studio and back to his hometown, with a lineup of collaborators and friends making cameos. Stream the music video above.

“I’m a young, Black Maynard, mama gospel singer / Daddy dope slanger, born from the anger / Tryna work a angle, get up out of danger / Hand on the pistol, the trigger hold the finger,” he opens the nearly five-minute cut. While Killer Mike, T.I. and JID all take a verse (in that order), Jacquees brings his silky-smooth allure to each chorus (“Mama, look at me now / Your baby boy is more than just a problem child.”)

The cover art for “MAYNARD VIGNETTE” reads MICHAEL DELUXE down the left side, which will feature four new songs including “MAYNARD VIGNETTE.”  With other new additions “YES,” “GET SOME MONEY” and Young Nudy feature “ACT UP”, MICHAEL DELUXE hits streaming everywhere next Friday, September 15.

“MAYNARD VIGNETTE” is available to stream on Spotify and Apple Music. On Spotify, the track is included as the first song in a four-pack, whereas Apple Music features “MAYNARD VIGNETTE” in its rightful spot on MICHAEL DELUXE,
