Kieran Trippier certain to sign new Newcastle United deal after ‘incredible’ development – pundit

Kieran Trippier is certain to sign a new contract with Newcastle United before the start of the 2023-24 season.
That’s according to former Hibernian striker Tam McManus, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the defender’s impact.
Trippier, 32, has started all of Newcastle’s Premier League games this season, wearing the captain’s armband with Jamaal Lascelles unable to find a place in the side.
He signed a two-and-a-half-year deal with the Magpies when he arrived from Atletico Madrid in January 2022.
McManus expects Trippier to be handed a new deal as he is irreplaceable at St James’ Park.
“He’s been transformative,” McManus told Football Insider‘s Ben Wild.
“It was a shame he only played a few games last season before getting injured but we have seen much more of him this season and we have seen that class.
“He might not be Newcastle’s best player, he is up there though, but he is their most important. He’s the defacto captain and you see the respect he commands on that pitch.
“I don’t think there will be anyone looking to sign him because of his age, he is also settled up in the North. I do think he will get a new contract though.
“Just to tie him down, keep him there. He’s 32 but age is just a number at this point. He’s played every game this season and he’s never looked tired.
“He has two or three years left at the very top level, I’m certain of that.
“Newcastle have to keep him around because he sets the standard.
“He is Howe’s man on the pitch and you can’t replace that. He’s been an incredible signing.”
