West Ham are right to concentrate their energy on football and outsource their commercial operation.

That is the view of finance guru Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the business benefits of the Hammers’ new deal with Huboo.

The club announced on Wednesday (14 September) that they had signed with the eCommerce platform in a multi-year deal.

Huboo will facilitate the retail and merchandise arm of the Londoners’ business, and they have become the 15th official partner in West Ham’s sponsorship portfolio.

In an accompanying statement, Irons chief commercial officer Nathan Thompson claimed that the UK-based company had shown “extraordinary growth” in recent years.

Maguire saluted West Ham for delegating to the experts.

“There is a saying in business: stick to the knitting,” he told Football Insider’s Adam Williams.

“West Ham are perhaps best off focusing on football and their relationship with fans. Therefore, handing over the eCommerce platform to Huboo, who have expertise in this field, means all parties benefit.

“The club can focus on the football side of things and Huboo can concentrate on getting the club’s name out there and attracting people to buy into the name of West Ham and all of the benefits that brings with it.“

West Ham’s commercial and sponsorship income stood at £19.4million in 2020-21, the last full financial year on record.

That figure was part of an overall turnover of £192.7m.
