Kieran Maguire lambasts ‘toxic’ West Brom as behind-the-scenes overhaul begins

West Brom are a “toxic brand” and it is no surprise to see them struggle to retain the services of their auditors.
That is the view of finance guru Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the latest news from behind the scenes at the Hawthorns.
The Athletic reported on Monday (12 September) that financial services firm PricewaterhouseCoopers will no longer manage the Baggies’ books.
Albion were one of the last clubs in the English pyramid to produce their numbers for the 2020-21 season, the last financial year on record, after repeatedly pushing back their accounting date.
It is understood that the club are now seeking new auditors.
Whoever is hired will be their fourth auditor in just seven years.
The optics of this rate of turnover are not flattering for West Brom, insists Maguire.
“West Brom’s inability to hold on to their auditors is indicative of a club in which perhaps governance and boardroom matters are not running particularly smoothly,” he told Football Insider’s Adam Williams.
“Normally, there is a good working relationship between auditors and companies to which they are appointed.
“If the auditors decide to move on after a few years, it indicates some form of conflict when they are bringing up areas of conversation with which they feel uncomfortable.
“The fact that the auditors of West Brom were a global firm, these organisations don’t want to be associated with toxic brands.
“What is happening at West Brom is a cause for concern in terms of the lack of transparency that is coming from the club.”
