Kepa addresses awkward talk of being dropped once again

There have been awkward questions about Kepa Arrizabalaga’s future every since Frank Lampard’s return as caretaker boss.

Lampard was the first manager to drop Kepa following his £80m move to Chelsea, and since then the stopper has had periods in and out of the team.

The last 6 months have seen him as the first choice goalkeeper, with Edouard Mendy on the bench, but question marks have been appearing as Kepa’s struggles have started again, especially following the return of the man who first benched him.

Kepa calmly addressed the situation in his press conference today ahead of the Champions League game tomorrow:

“It was three years ago [he dropped me],” Kepa said in quotes picked up by Nizaar Kinsella.

“It was a different situation, everything is different. I am playing now and Frank came here again. He is our manager and taking his decision in every game. When he picks me in his starting XI, I do my best.”

While he has had some dodgy moments in the last month or so, including in the first leg of this tie, his impressive saves against Brighton at the weekend should ensure his place is safe for the rest of the season.
