A shooting at a Wisconsin bar has left three people dead and two others wounded, while the suspect remains at large, police said.
Deputies and detectives responded to the Somers House Tavern in the village of Somers in Kenosha County at 12.42 a.m. on Sunday, Sgt. David Wright, the public information officer for the Kenosha County Sheriff’s Department, said in a news release.
Three people were killed, while two victims who had been shot were transported to area hospitals with serious injuries, Wright said.
The suspected shooter has not been located, Wright said. He is described as a Black male who is over 6 feet tall. He was last seen wearing a light-colored sweatshirt.
Wright said the shooting appeared to be a “targeted and isolated incident.”
“We do not believe there is a threat to the community at this me,” Wright said.
The identities of the deceased victims were still being determined and Sheridan Road, near the tavern, was closed early Sunday.
“We ask that this area be avoided so the Kenosha Sheriff’s Department can continue a proper investigation,” Wright said.
He said the investigation remains active and ongoing.
No other details were immediately released, but Kenosha Sheriff David Beth will hold a press conference about the shooting on Sunday.
Wright also issued an appeal for anyone with information about the shooting to come forward.
“Kenosha Sheriff’s Department needs to rely on the public’s assistance and cooperation when investigating crimes,” he said.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact the Kenosha County Sheriff’s Department at 262-605-5100 or call the Kenosha County Crime Stoppers anonymously at 262-656-7333.
The incident is the latest in a series of mass shootings in the U.S.
A former employee shot and killed eight people at a FedEx facility in Indianapolis on Thursday. Four of the victims were members of the city’s Sikh community.
It came a month after shootings at three Atlanta area spas left eight dead, including six women of Asian descent. Days after that massacre, a gunman opened fire inside a King Soopers supermarket in Boulder, Colorado, killing 10.
Earlier this month, President Joe Biden announced several executive actions to combat gun violence in the United States, which he called an “epidemic and an international embarrassment.”
There have been 149 mass shootings in 2021 as of Saturday, according to the Gun Violence Archive.
The nonprofit group, which catalogs gun violence in the U.S., defines a mass shooting as four or more people shot or killed in a single incident not including the shooter.
